Divine Healing

Before we discuss healing in-depth

We at Truth Ablaze believe that divine healing does take place in this present dispensation. I realize that this is a sensitive issue for many people, so I want to do my best in this article to present only biblical passages and to stay away from speculation and generalizations. I'm sure we're all aware of sincere Christians who died at an early age, perhaps met an untimely death through an accident, or suffered the loss of a loved one. This article is by no means an attempt to belittle those who have suffered loss or to accuse them of having little or no faith. The current prosperity message that is preached from television pulpits is not the true gospel of Christ. The truth is that we live in a fallen world, and we all have an appointment with God. Either we will go by way of the grave, or by way of the rapture (and I prefer the latter myself.) The bible is very clear that our lives here on earth are temporal, and our bodies (not our spirits) are decaying daily.

II Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it

Job 14:1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble

I Peter 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

I also acknowledge that there are some things that we may never understand in this life. God, in His sovereignty knows what is best for us. When bad things happen to good people (especially children), we can know and trust that God has a perfect plan.

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose

Serving God doesn't mean that we will never encounter any problems, but it does mean that we can put our confidence and trust completely in Him to be with us no matter what the difficulties.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

With that in mind, I want to continue with our article on healing.

What does the bible say about it?

The bible is full of passages dealing with the healing of our physical bodies as well as our spirits. Rather than me providing a running commentary on the scriptures (which are pretty self-explanatory anyway), I prefer just to list them. If you are sick in your body, I would encourage you to read these scriptures and confess them out loud. (No it's not a magic formula or mantra, but there is something powerful about the spoken Word.) Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10). We cannot force God to heal us by taking a leap of faith. Many well-meaning saints have found themselves at death's door because they quit taking their medicine. Taking medicine doesn't mean you lack faith and there is no shame in it whatsoever. These scriptures are for your edification and the building up of your faith in God. Now, let's look at the scriptures:

Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand

II Chron 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land

Psalm 6:2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.

Psalm 41:4 I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee

Eccl 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

Isaiah 57:19 I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.

Jeremiah 17:14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.

Jeremiah 30:17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after

Mark 3:14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 3:15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised

Luke 5:17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

Luke 9:2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

Luke 10:9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you

Acts 4:29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 4:30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

Genesis 20:17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children

II Chron 30:20 And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.

Psalm 30:2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me

Psalm 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions

Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed

Matthew 8: 16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 4:24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them

Matthew 12:15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all

Matthew 12:22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw

Matthew 14:14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick

Matthew 15:30And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them

Matthew 20:32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you? 20:33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. 20:34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

Matthew 21:14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

Mark 1:34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

Mark 3:10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues

Mark 5:29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague

Luke 6:17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; 6:18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. 6:19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

Luke 8: 2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,

Luke 8:47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately

Luke 9:11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing

Luke 9::42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

Luke 14:3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? 14:4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go

Luke 17:15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God

Luke 22:50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. 22:51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him

Acts 3:11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.

Acts 5:16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Acts 8:7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed

Acts 14:8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: 14:9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, 14:10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

Acts 28:8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. 28:9 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed

Hebrews 12:13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

I Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall

Psalm 67:2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations

Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 3:8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 4:21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 4:22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Proverbs 12:18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health

Proverbs 13:17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones

Isaiah 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward

Jeremiah 33:6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth

III John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth

Exodus 23:25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

Deuteronomy 7:15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

Psalm 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases

Acts 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 19:12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

Psalm 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Psalm 118:17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD

John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby

I hope that these scriptures will serve as encouragement and faith-builders for you. As I stated earlier, I am not a doctor, nor am I giving medical advice. If you are under a physicians care or are on prescription medications, please do not discontinue either one. I believe that God has gifted men and women in the medical profession to help mankind. History and scripture tells us that even Luke was a doctor. All wisdom comes from God anyway, so ultimately it is He that deserves the glory. My purpose in sharing this article is to show that God does heal , and it is perfectly acceptable to pursue healing in accordance with His will from the scriptures.
